Abstract
The article reflects the author’s opinion on theater photography, debuted with the opening of Dion Boucicault’s drama “The Octoroon” at the Winter Garden Theater in New York City in December 1859. It also talks about several related topics including stage performance, and media and remediation. The author mentions that the Boucicault’s drama explored what aspects of photography can and cannot be staged, and what aspects of the stage can and cannot be photographed.
