The Anti-photographers / Foote, Nancy

Foote, Nancy, «The Anti-photographers». Artforum, 15,  1, (1976), pp.

Abstract
In her essay “The Anti-Photographers,” 1976, published in the journal “Artforum,” critc Nancy Foote noted that conceptual artists defined themselves as artists “using” photography. Such a moniker indicated that the artists did not conceive of photography as a way to point out beauty in the banalities of daily life as a tool for documentation. Instead, they critically examined photography’s social meanings, aesthetic codes, structural qualities, and varied histories.
