Abstract
L’article analyse une photographie d’Adrien Tournachon prise en 1854 représentant l’acteur-vedette du Théâtre des Funambules, Deburau, en «Pierrot photographe». Cette photo constitue une sorte d’allégorie de la photographie. Sans doute peut-on l’interpréter aussi comme une interrogation générale de l’époque sur la question de la représentation (littérature, photographie, caricature, théâtre), à un moment où l’art du mime muet laisse la place à la pratique industrielle du photographe. This paper analyzes a photo taken by Adrien Tournachon in 1854 representing the very famous actor Deburau, who performed pantomime at the Theater of « Funambules » in Paris at the time, as « Pierrot photographe ». This photo is a kind of allegory of photography itself. Maybe it is also the sign, or the symptom, of a general questioning of « mimesis » in the middle of the nineteenth century, dealing with the connexions between literature, theater, caricature, and photography, at a moment where the ancestral art of actor on stage is giving way to the industrial practice of the photographer.
